Robert McKellar

Robert McKellar is a seasoned expert in political risk and international business strategy.

Robert began his career as an international business consultant, helping companies to develop new market entry and growth strategies. After moving into political risk, he advised organisations in how to safeguard performance and reputation in overseas operations, and he also worked on security sector reform engagements in post-conflict countries. He has been Director of Harmattan Risk since 2006, and his current focus is supporting businesses and NGOs in developing their own capabilities to understand and plan for the challenges they can face in complex environments.

Robert is the author of Political Risk Intelligence for Business Operations in Complex Environments (Routledge, 2023) and A Short Guide to Political Risk (Gower, 2010). He holds an MA in Political Science from Simon Fraser University, studied Arabic in Tunis, and earned a Master of International Business from ESC-Grenoble in France.

With extensive fieldwork experience, particularly in North Africa and the Middle East, and a deep understanding of global risk dynamics, Robert brings invaluable insights to organizations operating in volatile times and places.
