Jyrki Ovaska has over 30 years of experience in the forest products industry after graduating from the Helsinki University of Technology. He has held several positions in UPM’s paper business over the years including 12 years at the helm of UPM’s large global paper businesses. He assumed his current responsibility as EVP, Technology in late 2013. Technology at UPM covers areas like R&D, IPR, investment management together with innovation management, strategic partnerships towards the research, technology development communities, SMEs and start-ups. UPM’s rising new bio-based businesses, biocomposites, nano cellulose and biochemicals, report to him. Mr. Ovaska has been a member of the UPM Executive Team since 2002 and was the Chairman of EuroGraph, The European Association of Graphic Paper Producers for 3 years. He is currently chairman of the Board of CLIC Innovation Oy, an open innovation cluster for bioeconomy and cleantech. He is also Vice-Chairman of AmCham Finland, a leading Nordic business hub. Jyrki Ovaska is a member of the National Research and Innovation Council, a body that advises Finnish government on matters related to research and innovations.
